The story

CONNECT 1 is Milwaukee County's bus rapid transit line. It works a lot like a train on the street: buses get their own lanes on much of the route, and riders pay before boarding, so stops are quicker. It opened in 2023 and runs 9 miles from downtown to the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center in Wauwatosa. A second line on 27th Street, CONNECT 2, was paused in 2024 for lack of money. A $21 million federal grant is paying for smaller upgrades to the PurpleLine bus on 27th Street instead, such as new shelters and traffic lights that give buses priority.

Who decides, and how to have a say

Milwaukee County runs CONNECT and the other buses through MCTS, so the County Board decides on bus lines. Federal grants paid for much of the cost.
